Canada’s Olympic Team Features 3 Brock Badgers.

The 2008 Canadian Summer Olympic Team will have a bit of a hometown feel to it. The recent release of Team Canada by the Canadian Olympic Committee (C.O.C.) proved to be chalk full of Badger talent. Three (3) Brock University members will be competing at the Beijing games in August of 2008. Brady Reardon a Health Sciences major will compete in the Men’s Canoe/Kayak flat-water event, Tonya Verbeek, one of Brock’s Wrestling Coaches will grapple the world’s best in Women’s Freestyle Wrestling 55kg division, and Saeed Azarbaynaji, also one of Brock’s Wrestling coaches, will take on the world in the Men’s Freestyle Wrestling 60kg division. When asked what this meant for Brock University, BUSU President Jody Thomas commented, “this will really let Brock showcase its elite level of varsity athletes that we have come to enjoy. With our National Championship in Men’s Basketball and countless other provincial and national showings, Brock’s athletics will again be on the national map.” Thomas wishes the best of luck to Brock’s three representatives and to all of the athletes representing Canada in Beijing in these upcoming Olympics as they go for Gold.

The Brock University community will certainly be paying extra attention to the 2008 Games and the Badger athletes are sure to represented Brock to the highest levels.
