Brock University Students’ Union is happy to inform students and the general public that through negotiations and cooperation, a compromise to this year’s proposed flat fee tuition policy has been reached.
The flat fee tuition policy has been amended so that it will only apply to first year students. “This is a working solution, since most first year students take a full 5 credits, therefore the number of students affected by the policy change will be kept to a minimum” stated BUSU President James O’Brien.
O’Brien was also quick to note that this issue is not yet completely solved, “The original change to the tuition policy is still slated to be implemented for the 2008-09 academic year.”
It is expected that Brock University Students’ Union will be able to work with the University administration to produce a solution for all parties involved. “It bodes well for the students that a long term solution will be reached with the administration with regards to tuition. Negotiations have been productive to secure results for the 2007-08 academic year, we expect similar results from future talks” expressed President O’Brien.
The Students’ Union is planning to have open forums and focus groups throughout the year in order to ensure that any changes to the tuition structure go through a vigorous consultative student process.
Established in 1971, the Brock University Students’ Union is a not-for-profit student organization, representing 16,000 students.
