The second Community BBQ for 2009 is scheduled for Wednesday October 7th, 4 - 7pm, in the parking lot of the Anglican Church on the corner of Glenridge and Glendale, St. Catharines 

The first Community BBQ is scheduled for Wednesday, September 16th, from 5 - 8pm, at South Confederation Park in Thorold.

The tradition of community barbecues began in 2008 when BUSU identified a disconnect between some students and their longer-term neighbours in the Niagara community. Early in September, just as you’re settling into your neighbourhoods and ready for a productive academic year, we invite you out to a few public locations to meet your neighbours and grab some free food.

For students: we hope that you integrate yourselves into your surrounding community while you are here at Brock. For longer-term residents: we hope that you take the time to welcome some of your new student neighbours, and re-connect with the ones you knew last year.

Take the time to make some friends: maybe you can offer some services babysitting, or watering your neighbours plants when they are on vacation. Find out if you might be able to borrow a lawnmower during the warm months. Are you a frequent baker? Why not find out what kind of cookies your neighbours like, and drop in on them with a pleasant surprise later in the year. Does your neighbour work the night shift? Find out if Friday is a better night to host your friends than a Tuesday because of noise constraints. Find out when garbage day is, what the best local pizza parlour is, and which park is the best place to go for a jog.

When you know your neighbours, you make your surroundings safer and more enjoyable for all. Grab your roommates and your neighbours, and make these connections while you chow down on burgers and hot dogs supplied by BUSU.
