In 1961, Shinerama began as a way for first-year students at Waterloo Lutheran University (now Wilfred Laurier University) to do something for others as part of their Orientation activities. In its first year, Shinerama raised approximately $1,000 for a local school for the mentally challenged.

The Waterloo Cystic Fibrosis Chapter saw great potential in Shinerama, and introduced it to the Canadian Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Preparations for a national campaign advanced rapidly, and in 1964, eight universities and colleges participated in the inaugural Shinerama campaign, benefiting Cystic Fibrosis Research.

Since then, Shinerama has grown into Canada’s largest university and college student fundraiser. Three generations of enthusiastic ‘shiners’ have had a fun time raising more than $15 million dollars to help find a cure for cystic fibrosis.

Since being reinstated in 2004, Brock’s shine efforts have increased significantly and we have been able to surpass the committed goal each year. In 2007, we were able to raise $15,188 to contribute to the record breaking national total of $985,683 and then right after in 2008 we were able to raise surpass our goal of $20,000 and raise over $25.000.

This year the Brock University Students’ Union is committed to raising $30,000 and the nations’ students are committed to raising over the $1 million mark; however we cannot reach this goal alone so we need the help of all the Brock Students to help find a cure for cystic fibrosis.

For 45 years students have been planning a day in Setpember so that people suffering from cystic fibrosis can plan the rest of their lives..
