Past InitiativesA Big Thank You!BUSU would like to thank all those who attended the Presidents' Ball and our hockey night with the IceDogs. Through your attendance and contributions, BUSU was able to raise a total of $4,060 for the “Spread The Net” campaign. That’s 406 bed nets! We greatly appreciate your participation and hope to increase the involvement of Brock students and staff throughout this school year. Spread the Net at BrockWhat is Spread the Net?
Spread the Net is an awareness campaign initiated to raise funds for mosquito nets to wipe out death by Malaria. The goal is to raise $5 million in three years for UNICEF to purchase and distribute 500,000 insecticide-treated bed nets at no cost to families in Liberia and Rwanda, and to educate recipients on their usage. Every $10 collected will purchase one bed net for a child in Africa. Spread the Net campaign at Brock
Brock University has joined the Spread the Net Campus Challenge in an effort to fight malaria in Africa. The initiative, co-founded by Belinda Stronach and Rick Mercer in partnership with UNICEF Canada, is hoping to raise enough funds to purchase 500,000 insecticide-treated bed nets over the next two years.
BUSU’s contributionSince the campaign was announced on September 10th, BUSU has been organizing various events to help Brock reach its goal of $34,000 and to raise awareness throughout campus. Events held in support of the Spread the Net campaign:
