  • O-Week Blog Wrap-Up

Hi brockstars! This week sure has been a super hectic and crazy one. Hopefully move in day went smooth for you all, and you had time to pick up all those things that you forgot to pack! All of the activities that busu has set up for o-week have been ones that will absolutely be remembered. I have had a blast going from activity to activity and getting to know so many new people and take part in a new experience! All of the activities have been amazing from casino night to open mic( which was awesome FYI) to the movie night which was good, but let's just say don't walk in half way through the movie and interupt fellow watchers...might not end up so good! I have to say that when I heard that avicii was playing, I was a bit disappointed, but as soon as those tables started spinning, I was dancing! The show was fantastic, despite the little bit of rain. I absolutely can not wait for The Trews and Classified concert now, hope to see all you beauts there! I think the best part about oweek, I would have to say is not an event that busu planned but has been an amazing experience - is meeting new people! I have met so many different kinds of people, its been amazing. I was so happy when I realized that there are so many nice, exciting and welcoming people here. I can't wait to get to know so many more of you in classes, houses, and more. Keep this crazy and wild spirit up for the rest of the year, and even the years to follow!

  • We will, we will, Brock You. We are, we are Brock U.

    Hey guys,
Quote of the day: Ruk me baby, make me scrum

Fact of the day: Every once and a while, my room smells like cat food...

So today is day four of being here and I've still managed to not have eaten from the car for breakfast, although I hear breakfast there is greasy and delicious. I've just been living off of cereal.
The first night here I went out to Village to see my roommates friends, but Tuesday night I really wanted to get to know my hall better, so the girls on the other side of me and I meet some people in our hall and in our building and even bonded with our don. I really enjoyed myself. It was hard getting to know people in my hall because at first everyone is so quiet and nervous, but now everyones coming out of their own little homes and I am starting to understand how your hall slowly becomes your family by the end of the year.

Yesterday, me and a bunch of girls from our building grabbed as much Brock garb as we could find and headed down to be a part of our first Pep Rally. Seeing that many people absolutely stoked about being at Brock (whether they understood rugby or not) was exhilarating.

Afterwards we went and ate and we all decided we weren't going to go to Avicii. But by the time 8:30 came, there were boys in our hall making a pretty good argument.

    Me: "But it's raining"
Him: "Yeah and it will be raining on everyone else too"

So I grabbed two girls and we headed down. Oh my lord. I have never been to a concert, not the less one where you are so tightly packed in with what seems like a million other people. We tried to push to the front, and didn't make it there, but I'm not sure I wanted to. You could practically not breathe. But the atmosphere was amazing. When the beat dropped it took all that was in you not to start jumping and fist pumping like everyone else. I'm glad I went. Today is my first lecture and I'm crossing my fingers it goes well. And tonight is Condom Poker! Which I hopefully will make it to, but no promises ;)

    Hope you're enjoying frosh week!
    Brock on!

  • MOVE IN DAY

So right now it is 2:30 and you all should be moved in, or in the process of sorting your stuff out, exciting isn't it. Now we are all in the awkward process of wandering around and trying to figure out where to go, and how to make friends. I am in Vallee. For those of you who are also in Vallee, welcome building mates. My room looks on to the spot where we all unpacked our stuff so you may had seen me while you were waiting for the amazing SWAT team to help move your stuff into your room. In that case, hello again. I have left my room twice since I moved in at 10. Once to go get my Student ID and eat and another time to go to the bookstore. Both times I got lost. I have learned that the stairs by the tower do not lead into the tower and that you have to go around them (by Decew) to get to the tower. I have also learned that Mackenzie Chown is not a short cut, it is just a maze. I ended up in one of the courtyards in complex F or something, people were probably laughing. My residence meeting, as yours may be, is at 4. I think that once everyone on my floor meets, we will stop awkwardly staring at each other and start speaking. I look forward to that turning point in our relationship.

I hope to see all of you tonight at the Tower Party. And Rock the Red ;)

  • Getting Ready for O-Week

In her first entry, Emma gives her top tips for O-Week. Make sure to check back during O-Week as Emma documents her 2011 Orientation Week.

Step One: Make sure that you're vocal chords are ready to scream, make sure that you don't have the early stages of Strep Throat or Tonsillitis. Take precautions by eating a halls every time you feel an itch in your throat. This usually helps. Don't worry about what the package says, you can eat the whole tube in an hour - totally safe.

Step Two: Purchase your drink of choice... Of course I mean apple or orange juice. Juice that comes in boxes or smaller compact bottles are easier to manage and store.

Step Three: Prepare you're parents for what is to come. Of course you don't need to tell them everything...just the minor details. Take condom poker for example....leave out the condom part, unless you have super chill and awesome parents (I wish!!)

Step Four: Prepare yourself for what is to come. Take a walk in downtown Toronto or big city to get used to mass amounts of people, only do this step if you are from a small town. If you are already from a big town, then please feel free to skip this step!

Step Five: Catch up on some reading. Since the summer is drawing to an end, you have to brush up on your reading and word choice. Maybe pick up a thesaurus or dictionary and highlight some words that you think will be helpful for o-week? I took some time to pick out a few that I thought would be helpful.

Party: noun 1. A social gathering, as of invited guests at a private home, for conversation, refreshments, entertainment, etc.: a cocktail party. 2. A group gathered for a special purpose or task:

Concert: noun 1. A public musical performance in which a number of singers or instrumentalists, or both, participate.

Brock: noun 1.a European badger. 2. A super sick school "We will BROCK you" - meant in a term of winning and being awesome.

Step Six: Meet friends prior to getting there. Pretty sure we all know that facebook group has been a life saver. Also, a good way to scope out the um...hotties...

Step Seven: Get to know your roomies/housemates/floormates/bathroom mates. That way you're making it easier and less awkward on move in day. Plus, you don't end up bringing five microwaves and three blenders - awkward.

Step Eight: Have fun. After all you are paying 15,000 + $ to party and have fun...right?!?! (but actually..................go to class or at least make the effort to get out of bed)

Can't wait to blog again! Have fun during o-week ladies and gents! Get out there, meet new people, play safe and try not to have too much fun ;)
