Emergency Student Loans

The Emergency Student Loan Program exists to help students whose need goes beyond a week's worth of grocery, but is still somewhat temporary in nature. Students can receive a maximum of $400 interest free loan, which they are able to negotiate the terms of paying back. This loan is confidential and does not require anyone else to sign as a guarantor. Students wishing to access this program will have to fill out an information package, available for download here on the website or that can be picked up at the BUSU office, and submit the package to the Vice President Finance & Administration Will Crothers for review. Students should intend to meet with the Vice President Finance & Administration either when they drop off the information package, or a day or two after as there will be some parts of the package to be negotiated. Students will usually be able to pick up a check within a week or less of submitting their information package.

Students may only have 1 Emergency Student Loan outstanding at a time, and will not be permitted to receive a 2nd. Any student who defaults on their Emergency Student Loan and falls out of contact with the Students’ Union, will have their University account flagged which will make them ineligible to graduate, sign up for classes, get a copy of their transcript, etc. without contacting the Students’ Union to find out how to have the flag taken off their account.
